In
their final regular season meet of the year, the Regis Outdoor
Track & Field Team traveled to Providence for the Brown
University Springtime Invitational. With a little luck in the
weather, the squad capped off the year in stellar fashion:
rewriting the all-time Regis performance list and setting new
personal bests.
Highlights of the meet featured top performances from the
sprinters. The team's DIII New England-bound 4x100 meter relay
squad of Ana Baker (Hartford, CT), Anyah Hernandez (Brookline, MA),
Domingas Gomes (Brockton, MA), and Samantha LaFrance (Savoy, MA)
sliced almost a second from their relay performance with this as
their final preparation for the post-season. In the open events,
freshman Hernandez posted a huge personal best in the 100-meter
dash, breaking 14s for the first time (13.88s), ranking her as the
8th fastest athlete in Regis history. Close behind were her relay
members, who posted collegiate bests as well. LaFrance and Gomes
barely missed out in dipping under 14s as well with times of 14.06s
and 14.08s, respectively. Baker nipped at their heels the
entire way, also posting a personal best with a time of 14.23s.
Baker and Gomes would return in the second half of the meet in the
200-meter dash. For the 2nd week in a row, Baker ran a 29s race,
while Gomes broke all the through to the 28s range with a
year-leading performance of 28.82s, ranking her 8th on the all-time
top Regis performers for the event.
The Division III New England Outdoor Track & Field
Championship will take place May 1st at Tufts
University.
