Women’s Tennis Earns GNAC Road Victory Saturday

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Regis College continued its strong season Saturday afternoon, defeating University of St. Joseph, 8-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's tennis dual match at Hall High School.

The Pride swept the doubles sets, starting with the duo of Kaitlyn Colby (Merrimac, Mass.) and Lauren Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) with an 8-2 victory at number three doubles. Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.) and Ariana McCormack (Worcester, Mass.) defeated their opponents in the first position, 8-4, followed by an 8-3 victory at number two doubles for Ginger Boodakian (Burlington, Mass.) and Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.).

Donovan cruised to a straight-set victory at number one singles, not losing a game in the process (6-0, 6-0). For the second straight match, McCormack provided the match-clinching point for the Pride, dropping just one game in her straight-set win at number two singles (6-0, 6-1).

The Mogelnicki sisters were next to complete their victories, winning in straight sets in the third and fourth singles positions. The matches at number five and number six singles needed to be decided via a super-tiebreaker, with Boodakian in the fifth position battling to win the first set on a tiebreaker and then recover from losing the second set to take the match by prevailing in the super-tiebreaker, 10-6.

With the victory, Regis has once again clinched a berth into the GNAC Women's Tennis Tournament, and, at worst, the Pride will host a first-round match in the tournament Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Regis (7-2, 4-2 GNAC) will complete the regular season with a home match against Worcester State Thursday, Oct. 10, beginning at 3:30 p.m., followed by a road contest at Albertus Magnus next Saturday, Oct. 12, starting at 1 p.m.
