Women’s Tennis Earns Key Conference Win

BOSTON, Mass. – Regis College swept the doubles sets and won five of six singles matches for an 8-1 victory over Simmons University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's tennis match at Daly Courts.

The number one doubles team of Ariana McCormack (Worcester, Mass.) and Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.) cruised to an 8-1 victory, while the number two doubles tandem of Ginger Boodakian (Burlington, Mass.) and Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) shut out their opponents, 8-0. Kaitlyn Colby (Merrimac, Mass.) and Lauren Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 victory.

Donovan took care of business at number one singles with a straight-set win (6-1, 6-0), and then Boodakian clinched the match for the Pride with a win at number five singles (6-4, 6-1). Kaeleigh FitzPatrick (South Windsor, Conn.) cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at number six singles.

Both Mogelnicki sisters needed more than two sets in their victories. Lauren won the first set, 6-4, lost the second set, 7-5, but then recovered to take the super-tiebreaker, 10-4. Katelyn rallied from losing the first set, 6-3, with set wins of 6-2 and 6-3 for her three-set decision.

Regis (2-0, 1-0 GNAC) faces a tough challenge next Saturday, Sept. 14, against Eastern Nazarene, one of the preseason favorites in the league. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
