Regis Women’s Tennis Drops Indoor Match to Emerson

WINCHESTER, Mass. – The Regis College women's tennis team lost to Emerson College Saturday, 6-3, in a non-conference dual match at the Winchester Indoor Tennis Center.

Emerson (7-3) took the early lead with a victory at number three doubles, but the duo of Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.) and Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) earned an 8-2 victory at number two doubles to tie the match at 1-1. However, the Lions pulled out an 8-5 win at number one doubles to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles.

The Lions lost only four games combined in earning straight-set victories at number five and number six singles to close to within one point of clinching the overall match. Donovan would put the Pride on the board in singles, dropping just three games as she earned a straight-set victory in the number one singles position.

At number four singles, Mogelnicki rallied from a first-set loss, winning the second set 6-3 and the super-tiebreaker 10-8 to keep the Pride alive. However, Emerson clinched the match with a straight-set victory at number three singles. Ariana McCormack (Worcester, Mass.) battled in the number two singles match, winning a second-set tiebreaker to force a deciding super-tiebreaker, but Emerson's Sabrina Jacobs eventually prevailed, 10-3.

Regis (10-7) looks to get back on the winning track when it hosts Wentworth Wednesday, March 27, starting at 4 p.m. The Pride will then welcome Salve Regina to campus Friday, March 29, for a 3:30 p.m. contest, with a Senior Day presentation scheduled to honor Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.).
