WINTHROP, Mass. – After another successful fall season on the tennis court, sophomore Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.) has been voted Second Team All-GNAC in singles by the conference coaches, as the major award winners and all-conference selections for women's tennis were announced by the league office Monday.
In addition, after teaming with Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) in the number two doubles position and winning their doubles sets over the duos from Suffolk and Colby-Sawyer, Donovan was named to the GNAC All-Tournament Team for the second straight year.
Donovan finished the fall season with a 7-3 record in singles and a 9-3 record in doubles. In conference play, she won all four matches in which she played at the number two singles position. In addition, she and Mogelnicki were a perfect 7-0 as a doubles pairing, including 5-0 in regular season league play and 2-0 during the GNAC Tournament.
Freshman Kaeleigh FitzPatrick (South Windsor, Conn.) was named to the 2018 GNAC Women's Tennis All-Sportsmanship Team. FitzPatrick posted a 4-3 singles record and an 8-3 doubles record during the Pride's fall season. One student-athlete from each team is named to the All-Sportsmanship Team for following the conference's mission of balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunity, and community involvement.
Yashu Yang of Colby-Sawyer was named the GNAC Player of the Year, while her teammate Anna Kopituk received the GNAC Rookie of the Year award. Johnson & Wales head coach Devin Kitterick was voted GNAC Coach of the Year, and Simmons University received the GNAC Women's Tennis Institutional Sportsmanship Award. Regis's fall season ended with an 8-4 overall record after a 6-1 loss to eventual conference champion Colby-Sawyer in the GNAC Tournament semifinals Saturday. The Pride are scheduled to play five matches during the first week in March as part of a Spring Break trip to Florida, as well as home contests against Wentworth and UMass Boston later in the spring.
