Katelyn Mogelnicki Receives GNAC Rookie of Week Honor

WINTHROP, Mass. – With victories in both singles and doubles against a tough Johnson & Wales squad on the road, Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Mogelnicki teamed with Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.) at number two doubles and took the Wildcat duo of Claire Parry and Drew Bobey to a tiebreaker, with the Pride winning it 7-2 to clinch a 9-8 victory. That win, which gave Regis a 2-1 lead heading into singles, was the fifth straight for Mogelnicki and Donovan at second doubles without a loss.

In singles play, Mogelnicki rebounded from dropping the first set to win the final two sets and the match in the number four position (2-6, 6-3, 6-4). It was Mogelnicki's third three-set victory without a loss this season and improved her singles record to 5-1 overall, including a perfect 4-0 mark in the fourth spot in the lineup.

This marks the third time in four weeks that a Regis student-athlete has received one of the weekly awards in women's tennis. It is also Mogelnicki's second Rookie of the Week honor of the season, as she previously received the recognition from the GNAC office on Sept. 24.

Regis, 7-3 overall, enters the GNAC Women's Tennis Tournament as the fourth seed after posting a 4-3 league mark and will host fifth seed Suffolk Wednesday, Oct. 17, starting at 4:30 p.m. at the Regis Tennis Center. The winner of that first round match will head to the Winchester Indoor Tennis Center to face top seed Colby-Sawyer Saturday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m.
