Women’s Tennis Begins Season with Win

Weston, Mass. - The Regis College women's tennis team kicked off the 2018-2019 campaign with a match against Lesley University, winning 9-0 Saturday at the Regis Tennis Center.

The day started off with a strong doubles performance, starting with the team of Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.) and Gracie Jarest (Wrentham, Mass.), who lost the first game of the number two doubles match before winning eight straight games for an 8-1 victory.

Lauren Mogelnicki (Wethersfield,Conn.) and Kaeleigh FitzPatrick (South Windsor, Conn.) both made their debuts today for the Pride in number three doubles and came out of their doubles match with an 8-2 victory. Ariana McCormack (Worcester, Mass.) and Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) finished the doubles portion of the day winning their match in number one doubles, 8-4.

During singles play, FitzPatrick was able to win her match in number six singles, 6-0, 6-0. Jarest then clinched the match in favor of the Pride by winning her singles match, 6-1, 6-0.

Donovan, Jarvis, McCormack, and Mogelnicki all won their singles matches in straight sets to close out the day.

"Today I was very pleased with our effort. We came out with some first match jitters, but I thought we settled into singles play nicely. I couldn't ask for a better start to the season," said head coach Andy White. The match marks his first win as head coach for the Pride, after taking over the role this past summer.

The Pride will play their next match on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Regis Tennis Center at noon against GNAC affiliate member Eastern Nazarene.
