ORLANDO - The Regis (Mass.) women's tennis team suffered its first loss of 2018, falling 8-1 to Judson (IL) on Tuesday night at the USTA National Campus. The Pride fell to 7-5 overall and left the day with a split after beating King's (Pa.) this afternoon.
Doubles play came to a close with Regis trailing 2-1. Carly Scanlon (Canton, Mass.) and Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.) earned their team's lone win of the day, beating the Eagle pair of Irina Jacob (Bucharest, Romania) and Lauren Saiki (Mount Prospect, Ill.) 8-3 on the No. 2 court. Judson evened the match with an 8-3 win at first doubles then took a 2-1 lead into singles play when Martha Banda (Trilport, France) and Paulette Romero (Guayaquil, Ecuador) topped the Pride tandem of Amy DiPace (Cambridge, Mass.) and Sara Kanarkiewicz (Peabody, Mass.) 8-4 at the three.
Judson swept every singles match en route to the win. The match-clincher came on the No. 1 court when Donovan fell to Sofia Corona-Garza (Mexico City, Mexico) 6-3, 6-2. Jarvis put up the biggest singles fight against Jacob on the No. 2 court but still fell 6-4, 6-3 in what was the final result of the evening.
The Pride will have two days off before competing in its final match of the trip. Regis faces Penn State-Berks on Friday, Mar. 9 at 12:30 p.m.
