Women's Tennis Upended By JWU In GNAC Action

WESTON, Mass. – In a matchup of unbeaten league squads, the Regis (Mass.) women's tennis team fell to Johnson & Wales (RI) 8-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Wednesday at the Regis Tennis Center. The loss drops the Pride to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the GNAC with JWU improving to 9-1 and 3-0 in league play.

The Pride's lone win came in the final result of the match when Carly Scanlon (Canton, Mass.) swept Lauren Torre (New Fairfield, Conn.) 6-4, 7-5.

The damage had already been beginning with Regis dropping all three doubles matches. Gracie Jarest (Wrentham, Mass.) and Sara Kanarkiewicz (Peabody, Mass.) fell at the three to JWU's Claire Parry (Westport, Conn.) and Thapenga Flores (Pasadena, Texas), 8-1. Scanlon and Amy DiPace (Cambridge, Mass.) fell on the No. 2 court by the same score before Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) and Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.) closed doubles play at the one with their loss to Nina Cohen (Guatemala City, Guatemala) and Delaney Macchirole (Greenport, N.Y.).

JWU quickly sealed the win in singles play with wins on the four and six courts. DiPace fell 6-0, 6-0 to Macchinole at the four with Kailey Myers (Norwalk, Calif.) swept as well on the No. 6 court to Holly Olson (Mukwonago, Wisc.).

Donovan and Cohen played to a second set tiebreak in first singles which ended in a 6-2, 7-6 (3) win for Cohen 

Regis returns to the court Saturday, hosting Mount Ida at 12:00 p.m. at the Regis Tennis Center. JWU is next in action at Simmons played on the same day and time.
