PRIDE SWEPT BY MORNINGSIDE, 9-0

ORLANDO – Morningside College swept all three double matches and took all singles matches as Regis College was defeated 9-0 by the Mustangs on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference tennis action in Orlando. The loss snaps the Pride's 10-game winning streak and drops them to 12-2 on the season. With the victory, the Mustangs improve to 3-3 on the year.

Morningside took the doubles matches after the duo of Katie Hanson (Saint Peter, Minn.) and Audri Swisher (Spearfish, S.D.) beat Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and Eric Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) at No. 1 doubles 8-2. At No. 2 doubles, Kathryn Jones (Laramie, Wyo.) and Cassie Stanek (Sioux City, Iowa) took the match 8-2 against the pair of Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Emily Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.). During the final match of doubles play, Megan Carlson (Cherokee, Iowa) and Natasha Hongsermeier (Phillips, Nebr.) bested Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) and Sara Kanarkiewicz (Peabody, Mass.) 8-3.

The Mustangs didn't let up in singles play taking every match and almost every set. At No. 5 singles, Jewel Medeiros was down 1-0 to Megan Carlson, but Medeiros rallied back and took the second set 6-1 evening the match at 1-1. Carlson would respond however taking the final set 10-5 and the match 2-1 over Medeiros.

The Pride return to action Thursday as they square off against King's (Pa.) for the Crimson and Gold's third match of the spring break trip in Orlando. Match time is slated for 10:00 a.m.
