WESTON, Mass. - For the third-straight season, the Regis College women's tennis team captured the New England Collegiate Conference Championship with a 7-2 victory over Lesley University on Sunday afternoon. The Pride wrap up their season at 11-1 overall, while Lesley drops to 11-4.
Regis junior Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) was named the NECC Tournament Most Valuable Player and was named to the All-Tournament Singles Team. She was joined by her doubles partner Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) on the All-Tournament Singles Team, while Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) and Amy DiPace (Cambridge, Mass.) as well as Emily Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) and Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) were named to the All-Tournament Doubles Team.
Lesley's Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) and Carissa Iverson (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) were both named to the All-Tournament Singles Team. They were joined by Becker's Jennifer Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and Bay Path's Abigail Janneke (Waterbury, Conn.). Kiddie and Carlyn Barker (Murrieta, Calif.) rounded out the All-Tournament Doubles selections.
The Lynx jumped out to an early 2-1 lead following doubles play as Kiddie and Barker defeated Rice and Murphy, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles. Carissa Iverson and Victoria Bunker (Auburn, Maine) added a win at No. 3 doubles with an 8-5 win over Kendall Kolb and Amy DiPace. The Pride's lone point in doubles play came from Jessie Lord and Emily Morgenbesser, who defeated Emma True (Lee, N.H.) and Molly Phelps (Durham, N.H.), 8-3.
Regis answered in singles play, winning all six matchups to take home the 7-2 victory. Emily Rice's 6-4, 6-4 win over Emma True at No. 4 singles sealed the decision for the Pride. Jessie Lord defeated Caroline Kiddie, 6-7 (6-8), 6-5, 10-5, at No. 1 singles, with Erica Murphy adding a 7-6 (6-3), 7-5 win over Carissa Iverson. Emily Morgenbesser posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, with Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) and Amy DiPace adding wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
