DIPACE SINGLES VICTORY NOT ENOUGH, PRIDE FALL 8-1

WESTON, Mass. – Johnson & Wales University swept all three doubles matches and took five of six singles matches as Regis College was defeated 8-1 by the Wildcats on Thursday night in non-conference tennis action in Weston, Mass. With the loss, Regis falls to 2-1 on the year and with the victory, JWU moves to 3-0.

The Pride lone match victory came in No. 6 singles as freshman Amy DiPace (Cambridge, Mass.) needed three sets to come out on top against Eliana Aponte (Wayne, N.J.). DiPace took the first set by a 6-2 margin, but faltered in the second set 2-6. She regained composure and defeated Aponte in the last set 10-5.

The duo of Samantha Jo Borr (Westfield, N.J.) and Morgan Thompson (Fargo, N.D.) took number one doubles against Regis team captains Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) by an 8-2 margin. Emily Glass (Sterling, Conn.) and partner Gabrielle Longo (Philadelphia, Pa.) added an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles over Pride duo Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.). The Wildcats rounded out doubles play with an 8-1 victory as Stephanie Piperis (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and Taylor Klein (Johnson, N.Y.) defeated Pride pair Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) and Erika Palmer (Southborough, Mass.)

In the first match of singles play, Jo Borr earned her second victory of the day by defeating Emily Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) in two straight sets, 6-0, and 6-2. After losing the first set of No. 2 singles to Jessie Lord 7-5, Morgan Thompson rallied back and took the next two sets 6-2 and 10-6 and earned her second victory of the evening.

Stephanie Piperis earned a victory at No. 3 singles by defeating Emily Rice in two sets 6-1, 6-1. Glass then matched up against Murphy, and earned a victory against her in No. 4 singles by a 6-3, 6-3 margin. Taylor Klein squared off against Jewel Medeiros in a No. 5 singles and defeated her in two sets as well 6-1, 6-1.

The Pride return to action on September 16th as they host conference rival Lesley College at the Regis Courts in Weston with game time slated for 5:00 p.m.
