REGIS CAPTURES SECOND-STRAIGHT NECC CROWN

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's tennis team captured its second-straight New England Collegiate Conference Championship with a 7-2 win over Bay Path College on Saturday afternoon in Weston, Mass. The Pride wrap up their 2013 fall season with an 11-2 record, while Bay Path finishes the year at 10-5.

Regis took a 2-1 lead following doubles play as Abbie Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.) and Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) swept Symone Watson (Hamden, Conn.) and Stephanie Morin (Springfield, Mass.), 8-0, for the Pride's first point of the day. Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) and Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) followed with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles over Teanna Montoya (Edgartown, Mass.) and Abigail Janneke (Waterbury, Conn.).

Bay Path's only point of doubles came at the No. 3 spot as Taylor Wood (Castleton, N.Y.) and Brittany Walsh (North Smithfield, R.I.) recorded an 8-5 win over Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) and Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.).

In singles play, Jessie Lord gave the Pride a 3-1 lead in the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Teanna Montoya at No. 4 singles. Jewel Medeiros followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles over Brittany Walsh for the second point of singles play for the Pride. Erica Murphy's 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles over Taylor Wood clinched the Pride's second-straight New England Collegiate Conference Championship.

Emily Rice followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles and Abbie Wehr defeated Symone Watson, 6-2, 6-3 at the top singles spot to give the Pride a 7-1 lead in the match. Bay Path grabbed one point in singles play as Abigail Janneke dropped the opening set, 7-5 to Melinda Mara (Pelham, N.H.), but rebounded to win the second set 6-2 as well as the third set tiebreak 10-4 at No. 6 singles.

Rice was named the Tournament MVP and was joined on the All-Tournament Singles Team by Abbie Wehr. The duo was also named to the All-Tournament Doubles Team and were joined by the tandem of Jewel Medeiros and Jessie Lord. Bay Path's Symone Watson and Janneke were named to the All-Tournament Singles Team, while Taylor Wood and Brittany Walsh were named All-Tournament Doubles. Becker's Lily Woodward- Logan (Berkeley, Calif.) and Lesley's Grace Ciampa (Tewksbury, Mass.) were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
