PRIDE SET TO BATTLE RAMS IN SEASON OPENER THURSDAY

Weston, Mass.-The Pride will officially open the fall season Thursday when it faces the Suffolk Rams. Regis will certainly have its hands full against a Ram team that returns a talented group of players that can win.

Suffolk was 9-3 overall, and only lost one match at home last season.

Keep an eye on the number one singles play, as Suffolk's sophomore Lauren Cameron was 12-0 overall in 2008.

Comparably, the Pride's Megan McCarthy went 13-0 last season against The Commonwealth Coast Conference. Regis faced Suffolk last season, and McCarthy offered up the Ram's only loss of the match.

Returning experience to the court will be beneficial to the Pride's success Thursday. With the team having been in preseason since August 23, that time should have been enough preparation to knock off the summer dust.

Freshman Caitlyn Fitzgerald (Lynn, Mass.) was a high school most valuable player, and will likely make an impact for the team immediately.

If the pairings stay the same as 2008, McCarthy and Jessica Jeffery (Delray Beach, Fla.) will compete in the number one doubles slot. The pair earned a win together last season.

McCarthy could also be paired with sophomore Georgia Cowart (Hopkinton, Mass.); the team had the team's best doubles performance with a record of 5-4.

Likewise, Jeffery and Ally Kuchera (Waltham, Mass.) posted a 5-5 season record in 2008.
