Women’s Swim Team Sweeps Home Double Dual Meet

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College finished first in 12 of 16 events to earn two team victories, defeating Bridgewater State, 173-116, and Eastern Connecticut State, 227-48, Saturday in a double-dual women's swimming and diving collegiate meet at the Regis Aquatics Center.

The Pride led off with a close victory in the 200 medley relay, as Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.), Julia Burke (North Andover, Mass.), Alexa Lancisi (Milford, Mass.), and Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.) finished first in 1:57.21, just 67/100ths of a second in front of Bridgewater State's top relay.

Individually, Leonard won the 50 backstroke by over two seconds with a time of 29.09 seconds and the 50 freestyle by just 21/100ths of a second with a mark of 26.35 seconds, plus she finished second in the 100 freestyle in 58.69 seconds. Burke was also a double winner, touching the wall first in the 50 breaststroke by just a quarter of a second with a time of 34.35 seconds and in the 100 breaststroke by only 33/100ths of a second with a mark of 1:15.75.

Lancisi finished ahead of Zernitsky in the 100 butterfly, with Lancisi ending up first in 1:05.02 followed by Zernitsky in 1:06.96. The order was reversed in the 50 butterfly, as Zernitsky won the event in 28.76 seconds, just ahead of Lancisi in second place in 29.79 seconds.

Kyleigh Boatwright (Roseville, Calif.) almost rallied to win the 200 freestyle, but missed by just 7/100ths of a second with a second-place time of 2:07.75. She did finish first in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.75 and in the 100 individual medley in 1:07.39, establishing a margin of more than one second in each victory. Thalia Bowie (Lexington, Mass.) won the 500 freestyle in 5:48.53 and finished behind Boatwright in second in the 100 IM with a time of 1:08.80.

Gloria Sutton (Suffield, Conn.) finished first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 12:22.30. Fellow senior Elisabeth McQuaid (Marlborough, Mass.) finished first in one session of one meter diving with a score of 168.65 and second in the other session with a total score of 165.95.

Regis (3-0) heads to Gordon College to face the Fighting Scots next Saturday, Nov. 2, starting at 1 p.m. The next home meet for the Pride is Friday night, Nov. 22, against conference rival Saint Joseph's College beginning at 6 p.m.
