Banrey, Boatwright Earn Final GNAC Weekly Swim Awards of Season

WINTHROP, Mass. – After leading their respective teams to seventh place finishes at the 2019 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships this past weekend, freshmen GianCarlos Banrey (Roslindale, Mass.) and Kyleigh Boatwright (Roseville, Calif.) picked up three of the final four weekly awards of the season from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), as announced Monday by the league office.

For the second time this season, Banrey has been named both the Men's Athlete and Men's Rookie of the Week, earning the first-year weekly award for the fifth time overall. Meanwhile, Boatwright picks up Women's Rookie of the Week honors for the first time, capping an impressive freshman campaign.

Banrey led the Pride men to their ninth straight top-10 finish at the NEISDA Championships, advancing to the A-final in all three individual events he entered. Friday, after finishing fifth in the 100 butterfly preliminaries at 52.70 seconds, he posted an evening time almost one full second quicker for a third-place finish in 51.76 seconds.

Also Friday, he qualified for the A-final in the 50 freestyle with a morning time of 22.06 seconds and once again improved in the evening, finishing fifth in 21.81 seconds. Saturday, he posted the fastest preliminary time in the 50 butterfly at 23.31 seconds, and then improved to a finals mark of 23.24 seconds to earn his second podium appearance of the weekend with a second place finish.

In the relays, he led off the 200 freestyle relay with a 50 free split of 21.84 seconds, posted a 100 fly split of 51.56 seconds in the 400 medley relay, completed his 50 fly leg of the 200 medley relay in 22.91 seconds, and started off the 400 freestyle relay with a 100 free split of 48.59 seconds. In total, of Regis' 267 points, he collected 47 points in individual events and assisted in accumulating 102 points during relays.

Boatwright played a major role in the Pride women landing in the top 10 at the NEISDA Championships for the fourth straight year, scoring in all three individual events she entered as well as helping three relay squads to top-nine finishes. Thursday night, she anchored the 800 freestyle relay, posting a 200 free split of 2:03.43 as the team finished ninth in the event.

Friday, she helped the 200 freestyle relay to a sixth-place finish with a 50 free split of 25.59 seconds in the second leg. Boatwright qualified for the A-final in the 100 backstroke Saturday, eventually finishing seventh in the event with an evening time of 1:01.60. Sunday, Boatwright finished 15th in the 100 freestyle, following a preliminary time of 55.97 seconds with a finals mark of 56.22 seconds.

Her highest individual placement came later Sunday in the 100 individual medley, where she finished fifth in 1:04.40 after qualifying for the A-final with a morning time of 1:04.01. She completed her day and the meet by leading off the 400 freestyle relay that finished sixth, posting a 100 free split of 56.93 seconds. Boatwright collected 60 individual points and was part of 136 Regis points gained in the relays as the Pride finished with 583 total points.

In 2018-19, the Regis College men's and women's swimming and diving teams each posted a winning dual meet record, finished second at the GNAC Championships, and ended up seventh at the NEISDA Championships.
