Regis Women’s Swimming and Diving Splits Tri-Meet

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Regis College came close to a sweep of Saturday's tri-meet, losing to host Bridgewater State, 149-133, and defeating Eastern Connecticut State, 190-92, in a women's collegiate swimming and diving meet at the Moriarty Pool.

Kyleigh Boatwright (Roseville, Calif.) began her day with a third-place finish in the 50 backstroke in 30.25 seconds, just behind teammate and event winner Sarah Leonard's (Brockton, Mass.) time of 29.89 seconds. Boatwright then won the 100 backstroke in 1:04.38, ahead of the second-place finisher by just a quarter of a second, and the 100 individual medley in 1:07.13, plus she anchored the second-place 200 freestyle relay squad (1:47.51) with a 50 free split of 26.12 seconds.

Besides her victory, Leonard led off the 200 medley relay with a 50 back split of 29.42 seconds, helping the squad to a third-place finish in 2:00.53. She also finished second in the 100 freestyle in 59.64 seconds, and then she ended the day by posting a 50 free split of 26.01 seconds in the second leg of the 200 freestyle relay.  

Elisabeth McQuaid (Marlborough, Mass.) also picked up two event victories, finishing first in the one-meter diving with 233.70 points and the three-meter diving with 210.05 points.

Also among the swimmers, Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.) anchored the 200 medley relay that finished third with a 50 free split of 25.80 seconds, finished second in the 50 freestyle by just 3/10ths of a second at 26.48 seconds, finished second in the 50 butterfly in 29.49 seconds, and led off the second-place 200 freestyle relay quartet with a 50 free split of 27.54 seconds.

Gloria Sutton (Suffield, Conn.) finished second in the 1000 freestyle in 12:02.07, enjoyed only about 15 minutes of rest before finishing third in the 200 freestyle in 2:12.22, and then finished second in the 500 freestyle in 5:52.69. Thalia Bowie (Lexington, Mass.) was fourth in the 200 freestyle in 2:12.91, followed by a third-place finish in the 100 freestyle in 1:01.66 and a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in 1:19.31.

Regis (2-1) returns to the Athletics Center Pool on campus next Saturday, Nov. 3, for a dual meet against Gordon College starting at 11 a.m.
