Swimming and Diving Hits The Pool For Home Opener Versus Norwich, Babson

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis (Mass.) swimming and diving teams opened its home schedule, squaring off with Babson and Norwich in tri-meet action Saturday at Regis Pool. The Pride women did the double with wins over both schools but the men came up short in both of its competitions.

Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.) and Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.) headlined the excellent showing on the women's side. Higgins won the 200 freestyle (2:07.16), while Zernitsky won the 50 freestyle (26.10) and nabbed a silver finish in the 100 free (58.80). The pair also teamed up with Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.) and Ashlyn DeRoche (North Reading, Mass.) to win the 200 free relay (1:44.74).

Gloria Sutton (Suffield, Conn.) had a pair of solid freestyle events of her own, winning the 500 free (5:48.51) and placing third in the 200 free (2:09.94). Elisabeth McQuaid (Marlborough, Mass.) won both her 1-meter dive competitions against the Cadets and Beavers.

Nick Rainville (Reading, Mass.) and Joshua Unas (Santa Clarita, Calif.) were the top performers on the men's side. Rainville won the 50 free with a time of 21.85 and finished second in the 100 fly (53.20). Unas had two silver finishes, first in the 100 breastroke (1:05.36) then in the 200 individual medley (2:09.33).

Regis returns to the pool next weekend, competing in a two-day dual meet competition Friday and Saturday against St. Joseph's (Me.) Start time at Regis Pool is set for 5:00 p.m. on Friday and 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
