WESTON, Mass.—With the Regis College men’s tennis team on the road competing in the spring break portion of its season schedule, head coach John Ciarleglio is updating us all on the teams progress while in sunny South Carolina.
Hi All,
We had an uneventful trip down, staying Friday night in Rocky
Mount, NC and drove about six hours Saturday morning arriving at
our home for the week at about 3:30 p.m. After registering at
the Spring Break Tennis Headquarters, we had an hour and a half
practice and grilled steak at the house for dinner.
Everyone is psyched, and that showed in our practice this morning
and our first match this afternoon. We played Defiance
College (Ohio), and while we did lose 8 to 1, several of the
individual matches were very competitive. Andy White and Jeff
Parrish pulled off tough wins in first doubles in a very exciting
match, finally prevailing, 9 to 7. This is the Regis men's
team's first ever doubles victory. At second doubles, Matt
Smolko and Dan Berdichevsky played given a 8 to 4 loss.
In the singles matches, Jon Dost was tenacious at the six singles
spot, splitting the first 2 sets -- winning the first set 6 - 3,
losing the 2nd set 6 - 2 and then pushed his opponent to the brink
in the super tie-break, but losing 13 --11. The rest of the
players and Paul and I have been celebrating Jon's super effort
from the end of the match through dinner. Andy White had a
great match at third singles, battling for almost two hours before
losing 6 - 4, 6 - 3. Fifth singles was another competitive
contest, with Mouhamed Diallo playing his best tennis ever
succumbing 6 - 3, 6 -3.
We are having a “blast” to quote the guys and everyone
is looking forward to Monday’s match against Lebanon
Valley College!
