Women’s Soccer Loses GNAC Road Contest

STANDISH, Maine – Regis College lost to Saint Joseph's College, 3-0, Saturday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer match at the SJC Athletic Complex.

The two teams exchanged possession through most of the first half, with early shots by Avery Finelli (Colchester, Vt.) and Emma Mendes (Pawtucket, R.I.) turned away by Monk goalie Adia Grogan. On a counterattack in the 36th minute, Samantha Colatruglio found Emma Auclair, and Auclair's shot bounced off the left post into the net to put Saint Joseph's on top.

The Pride created a scoring opportunity in the 39th minute, but Julia Walsh's (Waltham, Mass.) shot was caught by Grogan, and the Monks took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Saint Joseph's (5-1-1, 2-0 GNAC) struck early in the second half, as Ashley Emery scored off an assist by McKenzie Murphy just over six minutes into the period. Emery would pick up her second goal of the match eight minutes later to extend the Monk lead to 3-0.

The Monks outshot the Pride, 14-6, led by Emery and Madison Michaud with three shots apiece. Grogan made four saves in 77 minutes for Saint Joseph's, while Regis starting goalie Ori Attridge (Westwood, Mass.) was credited with three saves in just under 70 minutes on the field before Angie Caldwell (Goffstown, N.H.) played the final 20:12 in net.

Regis (4-3, 1-1 GNAC) is scheduled to play at UMass Boston Wednesday, Sept. 25, starting at 7 p.m. The Pride will then serve as the finale at Regis Stadium for Regis Fest 2019, hosting Suffolk next Saturday, Sept. 28, at 4 p.m.
