Pride Anchor Down Late Against RIC

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College Pride gave up a pair of second half goals but responded each time, scoring two goals of their own after halftime to beat the Anchorwomen of Rhode Island College, 3-2, in a non-conference collegiate women's soccer match Tuesday at Regis Stadium.

The Pride were led by Kaylee Francis (Millis, Mass.), who scored her fourth goal of the season while adding two assists. Emma Mendes (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Emily Lange (Ashland, Mass.) also put their names onto the scoresheet with a goal apiece.

The first goal of the contest came off the right foot of Francis in the 24th minute as she made a move to shake her defender and fired a shot into the net to give the Pride a 1-0 advantage.

The Anchorwomen fired four shots in the direction of Ori Attridge (Westwood, Mass.), who saved all attempts she faced for the Pride. Rhode Island College's goalkeeper Erica Edwards made two saves on three first half shots.

At 2:45 into the second half, the Anchorwomen's Hayley Rich connected on a pass to Aliyah Colvin, who scored her first goal of the season, knotting the game at 1-1.

Regis responded in the 70th minute of the contest after Mendes was on the receiving end of a pass from Francis, which Mendes then shot past the goalkeeper. Rhode Island College answered 13 seconds later when Rich scored a goal of her own after Soleil Galagarza found her in open space to tie the game for the second time at 2-2.

With 4:21 remaining in the contest, Valerie Gordon (Hudson, N.H.) crossed the ball over to Francis, who connected with Lange for the goal that gave the Pride and Angie Caldwell (Goffstown, N.H.), who came into the game in relief of Attridge, the victory.

Possession in the contest was evenly split at 50 percent for each side. The Anchorwomen held a slight 7-6 advantage in shots on goal, while the Pride held a 9-1 advantage on corner kicks.
