Women’s Soccer Wins in Overtime

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's soccer team went into overtime against conference foe St. Joseph (Conn.), coming out on top, 3-2, Saturday afternoon at Regis Stadium.

The Pride came out strong and scored in the fifth minute of the game after a pass from Payton Fitzgerald (Danielson, Conn.) found its way to Kaylee Francis (Millis, Mass.), who was able to find the back of the net to put the Pride up, 1-0.

The next goal would come from Morgan Skoly in the 38th minute and would allow the Blue Jays to knot the game back up, 1-1.

Coming out of the halftime break, Brianna Gaynor (Peabody, Mass.) scored her second goal of the season in the 50th minute, putting the Pride back up, 2-1. The lead would last until the closing seconds of the second half when Amanda Ghent of St. Joseph would score with 17 seconds remaining in regulation.

In the overtime period, Francis would score with less than four minutes remaining in the first overtime period, giving the Pride their second conference victory of the season as well as their second overtime win of the year.

The Pride will be back in action Wednesday, Sept. 19when they travel to Johnson and Wales for a 7:30 p.m. tilt against the Wildcats.
