Regis Women’s Soccer Rallies for 3-2 Victory on Road

FARMINGTON, Maine – The Regis College women's soccer team outshot Maine-Farmington throughout the afternoon, and finally enough shots went into the net down the stretch to give the Pride a 3-2 victory over the Beavers Saturday in a non-conference collegiate match at Bob Leib Field.

Down 2-1, Regis continued to create scoring chances, taking several shots in an effort to tie the match. Finally, in the 80th minute, Kaylee Francis (Millis, Mass.) earned her first career collegiate goal to tie the match at 2-2.

Just over four minutes later, Noelle Garcia (Los Angeles, Calif.) came close to putting the Pride ahead, but her shot hit the crossbar. She received another chance in the final minute, scoring her second career goal with 30 seconds left in regulation. Both of Garcia's goals at Regis, with the other one coming in 2016, have been game-winning tallies.

The Pride outshot the Beavers 23-8, led by Rachel Kelly (Whitman, Mass.) with nine total shots. Maine-Farmington goalie Mikayla Cameron made seven saves, but she could not keep the final shot out of the net.

Regis gained control of the possession early in the match, eventually earning its first tally of the season as Erin Filetti (Newburyport, Mass.) found Kelly for the Pride goal. Regis continued to put on the pressure, taking four more shots over the next 10 minutes, but Cameron made two saves to keep the home team within striking distance.

Midway through the first half, Maine-Farmington evened the score at 1-1 on a goal by Hadlee Yescott. The play slowed down as the opening half ended, with neither team getting many scoring chances, keeping the contest tied at 1-1 at halftime.

The Pride had their chances to retake the lead early in the second half, with Kelly taking several shots in the first 20 minutes of the half, including one that hit the post. Meanwhile, it was Maine-Farmington that pulled ahead on Yescott's second goal of the afternoon, this time off an assist from Lydia Roy.

The goalkeeping duties for Regis were split between two freshmen, with Angie Caldwell (Goffstown, N.H.) getting the start and allowing one goal while making one save. Oriana Attridge (Westwood, Mass.) took over after halftime and was credited with the win even though she did not collect any saves.

Maine-Farmington (0-2) was led by Yescott and McKenna Brodeur with three shots apiece. The Beavers allowed the Pride to take seven corner kicks while earning just one corner kick chance of their own.

Regis (1-0) is back in action tomorrow evening, Sept. 2, hosting Emerson College in the Pride's home opener starting at 6 p.m. at Regis Stadium. Maine-Farmington is off until next Friday, Sept. 7, when the Beavers face Wentworth at New England College in Henniker, N.H.
