Lange Nets Late Gamewinner, Women’s Soccer Edges Becker 2-1

WESTON, Mass.Emily Lange (Ashland, Mass.) scored in the 90th minute on a cross from Noelle Garcia (Los Angeles, Calif.) to lift the Regis (Mass.) women's soccer team to an exciting 2-1 Senior Day win over Becker in non-conference action Saturday at Regis Stadium. Regis improves to 6-9-1 while Becker falls to 10-8.

Becker opened the scoring with a goal in the 13th minute. A Hawk shot from the top of the box ricocheted to the foot of Ciara McKissick (Charlton, Mass.) who finished near post past Pride keeper Krysten Drake (Loganville, Ga.)

The Regis response came quickly. Racing down the right flank with the ball at her feet, Michaela Bouvette (Mattapoisett, Mass.) cut in to the box and a laid a pass to the foot of Rachel Kelly (Whitman, Mass.) who finished far post against Hawk keeper Jordyn Martel (Chicopee, Mass.).

Regis dominated play for much of the first half but it was Becker who nearly pulled ahead with five minutes to play until halftime. Drake made a point blank save off a Kyra Teixeira (Old Lyme, Conn.) shot then turned Lindsey Keith's (Sutton, Mass.) rebound wide of the post.

Drake had to come up big in the second half as well, deflecting a McKissick header over the crossbar. It was the Pride though who were unlucky not to take the lead when Kelly's strike hit the crossbar but came down to Payton Fitzgerald (Danielsn, Conn.) who also was unable to beat Martel, and the ball was cleared off the line.

With the game seemingly destined for overtime, Garcia found Lange racing into the penalty area who finished past Martel with just 30 seconds to play.

Prior to the match, Regis honored seniors Michaela Bouvette, Tais Salles (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), Erin Loehner (Danvers, Mass.) and Shannon Cafua (Watertown, Mass.) for their contributions to Regis soccer.

Regis closes the season next Tuesday, Oct. 24 at Framingham State. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. Becker hosts Lesley for Senior Day Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 8:00 p.m.
