Women's Soccer Drops Road Loss At Emerson

BOSTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) women's soccer team's four-game unbeaten streak came to end on Tuesday, losing 5-0 to Emerson in non-conference action. The Pride fall to 6-4-1 while the Lions improve to 6-6.

Five different Lions, including sophomores Elizabeth Noble (Long Beach, Calif.), Paige Haley (San Diego, Calif.) and Rachel Lord (Burlington, Conn.), freshman Chiara Bernardi (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and junior Alexandra Levin (Glen Ellyn, Ill.), powered Emerson

After 34 minutes of no scoring from either side, Emerson struck first with 11:41 left on the clock. In front of a crowded box in front of the Regis net, Noble deposited the ball to the left side of Regis freshman keeper Noelle Garcia (Los Angeles, Calif.) to put the Lions up 1-0.

Simple passes and smart soccer allowed Emerson to pressure and slow down Regis. Through the first 45 minutes, the Lions allowed the Pride to one shot and outshot them 10-1.

Emerson gained the 2-0 lead just nine minutes into the second half in the 54th minute. Freshman Veronica Alberts (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) crossed a pass from the right side to the middle to find Haley in the box. Haley caught Garcia off guard and buried her shot into the left side to give the Lions the 2-0 edge (36:06). Five minutes after Haley tallied the second Lions goal, Lord snuck an unassisted net into the bottom left corner to give Emerson the 3-0 lead (31:14). Between the 70th and 79th minute, Emerson tacked on two more goals from Bernardi and Levin to seal the Lions a comfortable 5-0 win.

Freshman Hannah Hodge (Gainesville, Ga.) was credited with her second shutout win, while Garcia was tagged with the loss and had eight saves through 90 minutes between the pipes.

Both Emerson and Regis return to conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Lions head to Smith for a NEWMAC contest at 2:00 p.m., while the Pride returns home to host Daniel Webster in a NECC matchup at 12:00 p.m.
