CAMACHO NETS GAME-WINNER AS PRIDE BEST ANCHORWOMEN
Regis College junior midfielder K.C. Camacho (Arlington, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal during the 70th minute as the Regis College women’s soccer team earned a 2-1 victory against non-conference opponent Rhode Island College on Tuesday night in Providence. The win propels the Pride to 3-5-1 on the campaign and the setback drops the Anchorwomen to 1-8-0.

Providence, R.I.— Regis College junior midfielder K.C. Camacho (Arlington, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal during the 70th minute as the Regis College women's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory against non-conference opponent Rhode Island College on Tuesday night in Providence. The win propels the Pride to 3-5-1 on the campaign and the setback drops the Anchorwomen to 1-8-0.
The Pride jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 1:39 into the game when senior forward Joana Rosa (Boston, MA) fed sophomore forward Tais Salles (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) just outside the 18-yard box where Salles wound up and ripped a shot into the net for the early 1-0 advantage.
RIC responded in the 15th minute when Gabrielle Turner (Smithfield, R.I.) chipped a shot from 25 yards out off a feed from Jaclyn Greenman (Waterford, Conn.) to equalize the score. A key point in the first half was a red card on the Anchorwomen in the 27th minute which forced them to play a woman down the remainder of the game. The teams traded shots for the rest of the half, but both goalies were up to the task, keeping the score at 1-1 entering halftime.
RIC freshman keeper Stefanie Togbasi (Providence, R.I.) recorded three saves in the half with senior Rachel Gagnon (Ashford, Conn.) stopping four in the stanza.
T he Pride used their one man advantage to keep the ball in the RIC half of the field for the majority of the first 30 minutes of the second half. They finally capitalized on a RIC error when K.C. Camacho corralled an errant clear attempt and beat Togbasi on a partial breakaway. RIC nearly knotted the game following a Greenman corner late in the half that found the head of freshman midfielder Leah Gravel (Johnston, R.I.), but the redirection ricocheted off the post and was cleared.
Regis managed to keep the ball in their attacking half for the rest of the game to escape with the 2-1 victory.
Togbasi (0-4) stopped six shots in the defeat with Gagnon (3-5-1) turning away 10 in the victory. The Anchorwomen held a 22-12 advantage in shots.
The Crimson and Gold return to the pitch on Saturday, October 3rd as they resume conference action versus Mitchell with kick-off slated for 1:00 p.m.
