SALLES TWO GOALS PROPEL PRIDE TO SECOND STRAIGHT SHUTOUT

LONGMEADOW, Mass. – Regis College freshman midfielder Tais Salles ( Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) scored two goals and the women's soccer team earned their second consecutive shutout victory after defeating New England Collegiate Conference foe Bay Path University 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Pride move to 4-4-1 (2-1-0 NECC) and the Wildcats drop to 1-8 and remain winless (0-2-0) in NECC play.

With the two goals, Salles has three on the season which is good for second on the team. Regis also remains undefeated against Bay Path with the only tie coming last September.

Regis opened the first 30 minutes of play with an 8-0 shot advantage. After putting two shots on goal during the first six minutes, freshman midfielder Michaela Bouvette (Mattapoisett, Mass.) notched her first career collegiate goal in the seventh minute of play off a deflection.

Bay Path had an opportunity to knot up the score 25 minutes later, when sophomore forward Ashley Fricke (Ware, Mass.) received a pass inside the box and ripped a shot on net that was denied by Pride goalkeeper Rachel Gagnon (Ashford, Conn.).

Regis kept up the pressure and that resulted in their second goal of the contest. Coming off the bench, sophomore midfielder Sofia Neri (Lincoln, Mass.), scored her first goal of the season at the 44:26 mark off a cross inside the box by fellow reservist freshman Jessica Perez (Lynn, Mass.).

The Pride outshot the Wildcats 13-2 during the first half of play; they also held a 3-0 corner kick advantage as well.

The tables were turned during the second half as the Wildcats outshot the Pride 11-9. Bay Path launched an offensive front taking most of their shots on goal in the second half. Despite the effort, they could not find the back of the net.

Tais Salles managed to score the final two insurance goals for the Pride. Neri and freshman forward Olivia Hamill (Sudbury, Mass.) recorded the assists.

Sophomore forward Briana Kujawski (Webster, Mass.) led the Wildcats with four shots for the day.

Rachel Gagnon earned her second consecutive shut-out victory, facing 13 shots, while managing six saves. Wildcats sophomore keeper Alma Rizvani (Prospect, Conn.) suffered the loss facing 22 shots for the day, giving up four goals, while tallying 11 saves.

Regis returns to action when they continue their four game road-trip as they ship up to Boston to face Emerson on Tuesday, October 7th for a 6:00 p.m. start
