Women’s Lacrosse Earns Tenth Straight Victory

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's lacrosse team defeated the Terriers of Thomas College, 18-4, for their 10th straight victory, the longest winning streak in program history, Tuesday afternoon at Regis Stadium.

Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.) scored four goals and added an assist for five points, and Rachel Nadeau (Coventry, Conn.) added five points, a career high, with three goals and two assists to help pace the Pride.  Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.), Taylor Assarian (Arlington, Mass.), and Brooke Ross (Hanover, Mass.) all had an identical stat line with two goals and two assists apiece.

The Pride would strike 2:48 into the game with a goal from Anselmo, and then Assarian would follow 30 seconds later off a free position shot to give the Pride a 2-0 lead. Kelly would score the next two goals, one off a free position attempt.   

With 23:32 remaining in the first half, Assarian would be on the receiving end of a pass from Nadeau; Assarian then turned and fired towards the net for a 5-0 lead. After a Jordyn Ringuette (Colchester, Conn.) goal, Thomas would respond with 21:41 to play in the first half off a Mackenzie Driscoll goal.

After a pair of goals by Ross put the Pride up 8-1, the Terriers' Nikki Bradstreet found Rebecca Kennett, who fired the ball into the back of the net. Regis then scored five goals in the final 15:15 of the half, going into the halftime break with a 13-2 lead.

A goal by Kelly 3:52 into the second half would put the Pride up by 12, but Driscoll would answer with a goal for the Terriers. Meghan Sargent (Brattleboro, Vt.) scored her first goal of the season with 21:07 remaining in the second half giving the Pride a 15-3 lead.  Emily Kosak (Milton, Mass.) followed with a goal of her own, notching her 100th career point in the process.

Mary Costantino (Abington, Mass.) scored her first career goal and point with 6:50 remaining in the contest. The Terriers responded with a goal just over four minutes later to close out scoring in the game.

Thomas (3-5, 0-1 NAC) will play host to Maine Maritime on Saturday, Apr. 13. 

Regis (10-1, 7-0 GNAC) will play at home tomorrow, Wednesday, Apr. 10, against Albertus Magnus at 6 p.m. The Pride finish out the week with a home contest against Colby-Sawyer on Saturday, Apr. 13, with a pregame ceremony honoring the team's seniors.  Saturday's game will also be played to raise awareness for the One Love Foundation.
