Women’s Lacrosse Remains Atop GNAC Standings

PAXTON, Mass. – Regis College extended its winning streak to eight games, the program's longest in five years, as the Pride defeated Anna Maria College, 16-2, Wednesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's lacrosse match at AMCAT Field.

Jordyn Ringuette (Colchester, Conn.) led the Pride in scoring with three goals and two assists, while Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.) finished with three goals and one assist. Emily Kosak (Milton, Mass.) and Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.) also notched hat tricks with three goals apiece, while Bridget Dowling (Hanover, Mass.) and Taylor Assarian (Arlington, Mass.) each contributed two assists during the night.

Ringuette assisted on a goal by Anselmo just 25 seconds into the match, but Anna Maria responded as Ashley Rufo found Bryce McDonald for a goal just over one minute later to tie the contest. The Pride took the lead for good 17 seconds later with a goal by Kelly off a Dowling assist, Ringuette found Anselmo again for another tally 34 seconds after that, and Dowling added an unassisted goal 57 seconds later.

After almost nine minutes without any scoring, the Pride offense got back on track, as Kelly and Ringuette scored consecutive goals in the span of 41 seconds. Kosak converted on two free position opportunities one-and-a-half minutes apart, and then Anselmo, Kelly, and Kosak all completed their hat tricks to extend the Regis advantage to 11-1.

Anna Maria (0-9, 0-7 GNAC) got back on the board on a goal by Rufo, but Regis closed out the first half with a goal by Rachel Nadeau (Coventry, Conn.) off an Assarian assist. With the clock running throughout the second half, the Pride picked up four more goals without allowing Anna Maria to score, with Ringuette and Brooke Ross (Hanover, Mass.) scoring two goals apiece after halftime.

Rufo finished with two points, six ground balls, and two caused turnovers for the AMCATs. Emma Walsh played the entire contest in net for Anna Maria, finishing with 14 saves as Regis totaled 30 shots on goal.

The Pride won 16 of 19 draw controls, led by Ross with six draw controls and Kosak with five. Defensively, Meghan Sargent (Brattleboro, Vt.) led Regis with five ground balls and two caused turnovers, and goalie Brittany McPherson (Lynn, Mass.) made two saves, one in each half.

After losing to Utica in the season opener, Regis has now won eight straight games, the longest winning streak for the program since the Pride closed out the 2014 season with nine straight wins April 5 through May 3, capped by the NECC Championship over Becker.

Regis (8-1, 6-0 GNAC) concludes its three-game road swing with a test at Saint Joseph's College in Standish, Maine, Saturday, April 6, starting at 4 p.m. The Monks currently have a 5-1 GNAC record heading into their match at Emmanuel Thursday, April 4.
