Women’s Lacrosse Grabs First Victory of the Season

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's lacrosse team pulled out their first victory of the season in an 11-4 win over Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Norwich University Saturday at Regis Stadium.

Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.) led Pride scoring with four goals, all in the first half, while also adding an assist on the second of Jordyn Ringuette's (Colchester, Conn.) two goals. Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.) would also add three goals. There would be five different members of the Pride with a goal in the game.  In net, Brittany McPherson (Lynn, Mass.) made 10 saves on 14 shots, shutting out the Cadets in the first half.

The Pride shot out to a quick lead with Anselmo scoring just under two and a half minutes into the contest.  She would strike again when presented with a free position in the sixth minute of the game converting the attempt. The Pride scored six goals in the first half, with Ringuette and Anselmo leading the charge, giving Regis a 6-0 at the half. 

In the second half, Norwich found the back of the cage when Mary-Kait Mace snuck her shot past the goalkeeper on the man advantage just 35 seconds into the half.  Kelly would strike back just under two minutes later to bring the Pride lead back up to six.

After a goal by Brooke Ross (Hanover, Mass.), the Cadets would net two goals in the span of 43 seconds bringing the Pride lead back down to five. Kelly would then score in response with 8:29 on the clock and help to put the game away for the Pride, winning 11-4.

The Pride would barely edge out the Cadets in ground balls 43-41, while Norwich would take the advantage in draw controls with a 12-5 edge. Regis would complete 22 of their 28 clearance attempts (78.6%), Norwich would convert 18 of their 25 attempts (72%).

The Cadets (3-1, 2-1 GNAC) will be off until Wednesday, Mar. 20 when they travel to Colby-Sawyer to take on the Chargers before playing host to the Wildcats of Johnson and Wales on Saturday, Mar. 23.

The Pride (1-1, 1-0 GNAC) will take a break from conference play, taking on Fitchburg State in a 7 p.m. tilt at Regis Stadium on Tuesday, Mar. 19.  They will then return to conference play the following day Wednesday, Mar. 20 when they travel to take on St. Joseph at Central Connecticut State University.
