Women's Lacrosse Slides Past Curry

MILTON, Mass. – Sophomore Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.) tallied four goals and an assist on Thursday evening as the Regis (Mass.) women's lacrosse team slid past Curry by a score of 11-4 in non-conference action at Walter M. Katz Field. The loss drops the Colonels to 3-4 overall while the Pride improves to 6-3 on the season.

Curry was led by sophomore Abby Dubel (Wolfeboro, N.H.) who finished with three points on two goals and an assist. She also led all players with seven ground balls, six draw controls and six caused turnovers. Freshman Allie Wysocki (South Hadley, Mass.) had two points on one tally and a helper and sophomore Lee Stevens (Kingston, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with one goal.

Anselmo was the game's leading scorer with five points, and was followed by classmate Bridget Dowling (Hanover, Mass.), who finished with three points on two goals and an assist. The Pride got two-point efforts from junior Malorie Kiehl (Burlington, Mass.), who netted two, and freshman Cheyanne Jones (Randolph Center, Vt.), who dished out an assist to go along with a tally. Junior Emily Kosak (Milton, Mass.) and senior Linsay Bumila (Raynham, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece. Bumila also led her team with five caused turnovers, four ground balls and four draw controls.

Curry was first to get on the board just 1:27 into the contest.  Wysocki sent Dubel a pass who fired it into the back of the net. The Colonels took a 2-0 lead when Dubel assisted Stevens 41 seconds later. Regis answered with back-to-back tallies to even the score at 2-2.  Kiehl netted her first off a feed from Dowling.  Bumila followed with her lone goal of the night on a free position shot. The score remained tied for over 11 minutes before the Pride took the lead with two more back-to-back goals. Kosak took advantage of a man-up opportunity after she buried her only goal off a free position shot. Anselmo finished the first half scoring with her own free position tally with 12:37 left on the clock. Strong defensive play from both teams over the final minutes of the half kept the score at 4-2 with Regis on top.

The Pride was quick to extend their lead right after the half time as they tallied two goals in the first three minutes.  Dowling netted back-to-back scores 42 seconds apart from each other.  The first was unassisted followed by a help from Anselmo.  Regis tallied their seventh of the game 10 minutes later to bring the score to 7-2. Anselmo scored on another free position attempt, her second of the night.  Curry finally stopped the scoring frenzy with eight minutes remaining to play with an unassisted tally by Wysocki. The Pride answered back however on an unassisted goal by Anselm.  Dubel netted the Colonels final goal of the game on a free position shot at the 4:49 minute mark. Regis wasn't finished though as they notched three goals in the last three minutes of play.  The scores came off the sticks of Anselm, Kiehl and Jones.

Collard took the loss in cage for Curry on 14 saves. Senior Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) earned the win for Regis on eight stops.

Curry will next play on Saturday as they travel to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Gordon College at 12:00 p.m. Regis hosts Emmanuel College on Saturday also at noon.
