WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) women's lacrosse team capped a perfect record in New England Collegiate Conference play on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Newbury 20-0 at a rainy Regis Stadium.
With the win, the Pride improves to 13-3 on the season with an 8-0 mark in the NECC, while Newbury sees its inaugural season come to a close with a record of 0-13, 0-8 in the NECC.
The Pride offense jumped all over the Nighthawks early and often, outscoring the visitors 13-0 in the game's opening 30 minutes. Freshman Brooke Ross (Hanover, Mass.) led the Pride in the first half with three goals.
Regis kept their foot on the gas in the second half, scoring seven goals in the period. Senior Danielle Aguinaldo (Malden, Mass.) scored a natural hat trick early in the half for the Pride, scoring three goals in a span of just 4:35.
Ross followed up Aguinaldo's final goal with her fourth goal of the day, leading all players. Freshman Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.) had a hat trick of her own with three goals on the day for the Pride, while senior Arianna Woodley (Norwood, Mass.), junior Erin Loehner (Danvers, Mass.) and sophomore Mackenzie Cattaruzza (Guilford, Conn.) each netted two goals.
Regis goalkeeper Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) made two saves to pick up her first collegiate shutout. The shutout was the first for the Pride since the 2015 season, when they beat Daniel Webster 19-0 on April 9. Despite picking up the loss, Newbury freshman goalkeeper Keely Molloy (Staten Island, N.Y.) made an impressive 26 saves.
The Pride will conclude its regular season on the road on Saturday, when the team travels to Framingham State for a non-conference matchup with the Rams at 7:00 p.m.
