WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) women's lacrosse team stayed perfect in New England Collegiate Conference play on Saturday afternoon, defeating Bay Path University 20-3 on Senior Day at Regis Stadium.
With the win, the Pride improves to 9-1 (4-0 NECC) on the season, while the Wildcats fall to 1-5 (0-4 NECC).
Before the game got under way, Regis seniors Danielle Aguinaldo (Malden, Mass.), Rachel Baldrate (Plymouth, Mass.), Arianna Woodley (Norwood, Mass.) and Emma Dagesse (Rockland, Mass.) were honored for their careers with the Pride. The four seniors were presented with framed jerseys from early in their career and were joined on the field by their friends and families.
The Pride controlled the play once the game got underway, jumping out to a big early lead. Sophomore Emily Kosak (Milton, Mass.) opened the scoring at the 6:45 mark of the first half for the Pride, and the team never looked back. By the time the horn sounded for the half, Regis had opened up a 14-0 lead over the visitors to take control of the game.
The second half was much closer than the opening thirty minutes, but the deficit proved far too much for the visiting Wildcats to overcome. Wildcat junior Elena Helming (Maplewood, N.J.) ended the Pride's shutout bid 4:34 into the second half, while junior Kaylee Herring (Worcester, Vt.) and freshman Sydney Summers (Monson, Mass.) would also add tallies for the Wildcats.
The Pride was led by freshman Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.), who scored four goals and two assists on the day, boosting her NECC-leading season total to 32 goals on the year. Her 13 assists ranks her second in the conference. Freshman Bridget Dowling (Hanover, Mass.) tallied her first collegiate hat trick in the win for the Pride, who had 10 players record multi-point games.
Regis goalkeeper Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) picked up the win on the afternoon, allowing no goals in 30 minutes of action and making three saves. Freshman Olivia Maggio (West Windsor, N.J.) made one save in relief in the win. Despite the loss, Bay Path goalie Kristina Tran (Agawam, Mass.) looked sharp on the day, turning away 15 shots.
Next up for the Pride, they wil host Simmons tomorrow afternoon in non-conference play at 1:00 p.m. Bay Path will host Daniel Webster when it next hits the field on Monday evening at 5:00 p.m.
