WESTON, Mass. – Regis College held a slight lead at halftime, but Framingham State grabbed control in the third quarter and held on to defeat the Pride 84-69, Wednesday night in a women's collegiate basketball game at Higgins Court.
The Pride started the first quarter collecting 27 points featuring two three-pointers from Erika Marinelli (Point Pleasant, N.J. ) and Jordyn Striggles (Raynham, Mass.) to lead with seven points heading into the second quarter.
The Rams opened up the second quarter with a 7-2 scoring run to tie the game at 30 points after two free throws from Chloe Rayko. However, Regis gained offensive momentum to clinch and extend its lead with a three-pointer from Courtney Doherty (Willimantic, Conn.) and a layup from Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I.) to finish the first half leading with four.
Michelle Moreno tied the game at 46 points for the Rams, countering with a 17-3 run over the next five minutes to erase the deficit and take a 53-46 lead. The Rams would maintain the lead throughout the second half to secure the 84-69 victory.
Doherty led the Pride with 22 points, two rebounds, two assists, one steal, while shooting 3-for-6 from the three-point line. Striggles and Zancan finished with 11 points apiece for Pride while Jillian Perry (Melrose, Mass.) and Marinelli contributed eight points.
Regis (0-4) is set to travel to face Wheaton College on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7:00 p.m.
