Stone Goes For Career High, Women's Hoops Falls At Westfield State

WESTFIELD, Mass.Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass.) delivered a monster performance with 33 points and a career-high 23 rebounds but it couldn't stop the Regis (Mass.) women's basketball team from a 106-81 loss at Westfield State, Tuesday night at the Woodward Center.

Not to be outdone, Shannon Hayes (Billerica, Mass.) scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for a double double with San D'Angelo (Woburn, Mass.) putting up 12 points and corralling eight boards. The Pride shot 46.5% from the floor but couldn't overcome an insurmountable 52 turnovers converted into 49 Owl points.

Westfield State improves to 3-1 on the season and Regis slips to 0-3.

Regis cut the Owl lead to five to start the fourth quarter with a Melissa Rogers (Billerica, Mass.) three out of the gate. Lucy Barrett responded with a three of her own that sparked a 21-4 run over the ensuing five minutes to seal the victory.

Barrett entered the game with a streak of 17 consecutive free throws made this season, and had connected on 18 consecutive free throws dating back to last season.  She sunk her only two opportunities of the night with 3:43 remaining and broke the school record of 18 consecutive free throws made which was set by Bri Kelly in 2011.

Both teams will break for Thanksgiving before returning to action the following week. Westfield hosts Plymouth State on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 7:00 p.m. and Regis will host Keene State on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 6:00 p.m.
