BROOKLINE, Mass. – A balanced offensive attack headed by Pride senior Amanda Hawkesworth (Abington, Mass.) and sophomore Sam D'Angelo (Woburn, Mass.) led the Regis College Pride to a 61-48 victory over the Newbury Nighthawks on Saturday afternoon at Pappas Gymnasium.

Hawkesworth scored a team-high 17 points in 36 minutes, while D'Angelo made important free throws down the stretch to finish with 16 points. Junior Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass.) was held to a season-low nine but managed to grab 15 rebounds in 31 minutes.

The Pride remain undefeated in conference play this season, improving to 14-0 in New England Collegiate Conference games.

Nighthawks sophomore Savannah Olsen (Battle Creek, Mich.) scored a team-high 17 points and ripped in 18 rebounds; a game-high. Junior Destiny Spears (Arnold, Md.) and sophomore Isabelle Pafford (Greenland, N.H.) each scored 11 points on the afternoon, Spears added 14 rebounds in 36 minutes.

The double-double caps off a strong week for Spears who averaged 23.3 points and 10.7 rebounds, including a near triple-double on Tuesday and a career-high 35 points on Thursday.

The Pride held the lead through the first 12 minutes of play, leading by as much as nine in the first half. The Nighthawks stayed within striking distance, outscoring the Pride 10-4 in the final 8:09 of the first half.

Senior Brittany Beals (Lawrence, Mass.) hit a long two-pointer as time expired in the half, pulling the Nighthawks to within three, 25-22.

The Pride came out strong in the third, scoring the first 10 points of the quarter, including eight of the team's 24 points in the paint, to extend the lead to 35-22.

Newbury was able to pull within seven, but D'Angelo's 8-of-12 shooting from the foul line in the fourth quarter would lift the Pride to the 61-48 win.

The win moves the Pride to 15-6 (14-0 NECC), while the loss drops the Nighthawks to 6-15 (6-8 NECC); both teams have four games remaining. The Nighthawks travel to Bay Path University on Feb. 8 for a Wednesday night tip set for 8:00 p.m. The Pride return home for a Wednesday night game against Becker; that tip is set for 6:00 p.m.
