WESTON, Mass. – Four players scored in double figures for Regis College as the Pride women's basketball team defeated Bay Path College, 82-33, on Tuesday night in a New England Collegiate Conference game in Weston, Mass. The Pride improve to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the NECC, while Bay Path drops to 2-4 and 0-1 in league play.
Regis jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on baskets by Emilee Marro (Bedford, N.H.), Leah Murphy (Westborough, Mass.), and Claire Ramonas (Portland, Maine) before another Marro hoop forced a Bay Path timeout. The Pride extended their lead to 14-0 before Anna Meyer (Millbrook, N,Y.) scored the Wildcats' first basket with a jumper. Ramonas answered with another basket, but Kayla Skiffington (East Longmeadow, Mass.) scored on the next possession to make it 16-4.
The Pride lead never fell below 10 as a Kim Daniels (Jaffrey, N.H.) offensive rebound and putback gave Regis a 27-8 lead with just over eight minutes to play. Regis stretched its lead in excess of 20 before the fouls began to pile up for the Pride, putting Bay Path in the double-bonus with just under six minutes to play. The Wildcats began to chip away, cutting it to 30-15 on a pair of Justine Hook (Berwick, Pa.) freebies before the Pride ended the half on a 6-0 run to take a 36-15 lead into the break.
Claire Ramonas led all scorers at the break with 10 points while also adding three assists and a pair of steals. Emilee Marro chipped in four points, six rebounds, and four assists in the opening period, while Murphy and Daniels added seven points apiece. Bay Path was led by six points from Justine Hook, while Katherine Chabot (Brookfield, Mass.) added five rebounds.
The second half was all Regis as they outscored the Wildcats 46-18 in the final stanza en route to an 82-33 win to open NECC play. The Pride shot 50.7% (35-of-69) on the game while holding Bay Path to 23.4% shooting (11-of-47). Regis converted 26 Bay Path turnovers into 34 points and outscored the Wildcats 30-4 in the paint, winning the rebounding battle 44-31.
Claire Ramonas, Emilee Marro, and Leah Murphy scored 14 points apiece, while Kim Daniels added 13 of her own. All 10 players that checked into the game for the Pride registered at least one field goal. Marro added nine rebounds and seven assists, as did Ramonas, who also chipped in five rebounds and three steals. Taylor Bunkley (Carmel, N.Y.) came off the bench to add eight boards.
Justine Hook scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds, while Kayla Skiffington joined her in double-digits with 12 points and added six rebounds. Chabot led the Wildcats on the glass with a team-best seven rebounds.
The Crimson and Gold return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Chicopee, Mass. for a matchup with the defending NECC Champion Elms College at 2:00 p.m. Bay Path returns to NECC play on Saturday as well, taking on Lesley University at 1:00 p.m. in Brookline, Mass.
