Softball Falls on Senior Day

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis Softball team fell Saturday in both games of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader against the Albertus Magnus Falcons, 9-1 in game one and 10-2 in the second game.

Regis took time in between game one and game two to honor the team's three seniors. Allie Petillo (West Sayville, N.Y.), Brianna Napoleone (Medford, Mass.), and Kelsey Grimard (Pelham, N.H.) were all recognized in a ceremony at the conclusion of game one.

Game One – Albertus Magnus 9, Regis 1

Ellery Rasmussen (Kingston, N.H.) connected with a pitch for a homerun, while Napoleone and Emma Kelly (Lynnfield, Mass.) each reached base on singles.

Albertus' Jess Stettinger hit a double to right field in the first at bat of the game, Kayla Resto  moved Stettinger from second to third with a sacrifice bunt.  Laura Anderson then brought in Stettinger with a single down the right field line.

Albertus brought in another run in the second inning off a Madison LaBossiere double to left field that brought in Aubrey DeFoe. Another run was added in the top of the third when Resto hit a leadoff home run to center field.

The Falcons started the fourth inning with the first two batters reaching base safely.  After the first out of the inning, Resto found a gap through the left side of the infield, with runners on second and third base, bringing in the first run of the of the inning. Anderson followed with a double to left center field that brought in LaBossier from third. Resto crossed home plate two batters later giving Albertus a 6-0 lead 

Rasmussen brought the lone Pride run of the game in with home run to center field. The Falcons responded with three runs in the top of the fifth to finish the game due to the run rule.

Game Two – Albertus Magnus 10, Regis 2

Rasmussen had a double and a single, Sarah Fawcett (Londonderry, N.H.) recorded a double and an RBI, and Petillo reached base on a pair of singles in the Pride's loss.

The Pride were the first to strike in the game. Following Rasmussen's double, Fawcett added a double of her own that brought in Rasmussen from second base for the first run of the game.

After a being held scoreless in the first two innings, Albertus brought in a run with Anderson hitting a single that brought in Stettinger from third base. The Falcons added another run in the top of the fourth when Anderson hit a sacrifice fly to left field, bringing in Kristin Cunning.

Albertus's Marissa Guglielmi hit a three-run homerun and Cunning hit a solo shot back-to-back in the top of the fifth inning , bringing in four of the Falcons six runs in the inning. Leading 8-1, the Falcons added another run when DeFoe hit the ball deep enough to second base to bring in the runner from third base. 

After a Rasmussen double, Napoleone hit a single to center field allowing Rasmussen to come around to score, this single marked Napoleone's 100th career hit.

The Falcons added another run in the top of the seventh to close out scoring in the contest.

Regis (4-30, 1-15 GNAC) closed out their conference slate Saturday and will not qualify for the GNAC tournament.
