Ellery Rasmussen Named GNAC Softball Player of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – With a near-perfect batting performance in two conference doubleheaders this past weekend, junior Ellery Rasmussen (Kingston, N.H.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Rasmussen was nearly impossible to get out for opposing pitchers over the past week, batting .846 (11-for-13) with five doubles, one triple, and five runs batted in. In Friday's first game against Rivier, she went 3-for-3, driving in the first run of the game with a double and the second run of the game with a single. She drove in Regis' lone run of Friday's second game with a double, eventually going 2-for-3.

Sunday, she had two doubles in the first game against Lasell, driving in a run with her first inning double and then scoring later in the inning. She capped the doubleheader with a 3-for-3 performance, doubling in Regis' lone run in the third inning after notching her first triple of the season in the first inning.

Rasmussen is now sixth in the GNAC with a .451 batting average and a .620 slugging percentage as well as tied for sixth in doubles with seven. In the field, she was also perfect (5 putouts, 6 assists) in 11 total chances at third base. She is one of three Regis players closing in on 100 career hits, as Rasmussen now has 93 career hits in 79 career games for the Pride.

Rasmussen becomes the first member of the Regis softball program to receive GNAC Player of the Week honors since the school joined the conference. Two weeks ago, Madi McLellan (Fremont, N.H.) earned the Pride's first GNAC weekly award in softball when she was named Pitcher of the Week.

Regis returns to the field for a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday, April 16, against Gordon beginning at 3 p.m.
