McLellan Named GNAC Softball Pitcher of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – Serving as the stopper for the Regis College softball team with a complete-game victory Saturday afternoon, junior Madi McLellan (Fremont, N.H.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Making her first start of the season less than one week after two relief appearances, McLellan allowed only four hits and one unearned run to lead the Pride to a 5-1 victory over Elms College in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. She threw 90 pitches, 63 of them for strikes, as she struck out three Blazer batters without walking anyone, and she faced no more than four batters in any of the seven innings.

It was the 25th complete game in McLellan's collegiate career, but the first complete game victory for her since March 9, 2018, a 10-0 five-inning victory over Wentworth. Her last seven-inning complete game win came two days earlier on March 7, 2018, as she helped the Pride defeat Medaille, 3-2.

This is the first GNAC award, weekly or postseason, for a Regis softball player (other than the 2018 GNAC Softball All-Sportsmanship Team) since the school joined the conference. In her freshman season of 2017, McLellan received NECC Pitcher of the Week honors twice, as well as NECC Rookie of the Week, ECAC Pitcher of the Week, and ECAC Rookie of the Week recognition one time each.

Regis hosts Dean in a doubleheader Tuesday, April 2, starting at 5 p.m. at the Regis Softball Field. The Pride open conference play at Simmons Saturday, April 6, at 12 p.m., followed by a home doubleheader against St. Joseph (Conn.) Sunday, April 7, beginning at 1 p.m.
