Softball Drops Two on Final Day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Regis College softball team dropped both of their matchups Thursday to close out their trip to Florida, losing to St. Elizabeth 17-8 and Dominican (Ill.) 9-0.

St. Elizabeth 17, Regis 8

The Eagles would strike first with a single to right by Brittany Demarest, clearing the bases and putting St. Elizabeth up by three.

In the bottom of the second inning, Sierra Dunn would start off a six-run inning by bunting and bringing in the runner from third.  Dunn would then steal second before Jennifer Tinger would hit a grounder to second base bringing in Kathryn Harrigan to increase the Eagle lead to nine.

The Eagles would add four more in the bottom half of the third inning before Regis struck in the fourth. Morgan LeBaron (Rehoboth, Mass.) would hit a double to right center field that allowed Emma Kelly (Lynnfield, Mass.) to score.

In the bottom of the inning with two outs the Eagles would erupt for another four runs to put them up 17-1.

Regis would not give up easily, loading the bases before Kelsey Grimard (Pelham, N.H.) hit a ball to the shortstop that could not be controlled, bringing in Erin Murphy (Bedford, Mass.).  The next batter, Ellery Rasmussen (Kingston, N.H.) hit a single to left field to drive in Alyssa Rossillo (Sudbury, Mass.). Two batters later, Brianna Napoleone (Medford, Mass.) would double to left bringing in Allie Petillo (West Sayville, N.Y.) and Grimard, making the score 17-4.

Next up was Kelly who hit the ball out to center to score Napoleone and Petillo. Murphy would double to bring in Kelly making the game 17-8, but the Eagles would get out of the inning to keep the necessary lead to end the game.

The Eagles would finish the day with a record of 5-3 after a pair of wins on Thursday.

Dominican (Ill.) 9, Regis 0

Dominican would pick up four runs in the first inning starting with a bases-loaded passed ball to bring in Megan Hufnagle. After another run had crossed the plate, Allyson Dilday would single up the middle to bring in Cat Klostermann. Libby Zoppa would then cross the plate after a bases-loaded walk.

With Gabby Curran on third in the second inning, Alyssa Stuart would drop a bunt in front of the pitcher to bring in Curran, giving the Stars a 5-0 lead. An error by the pitcher in the third inning would allow another run to score for Dominican.

The Stars would take the 9-0 victory and finish the day with another win, improving to 5-3 overall.

The Pride (1-7) finish their spring break trip and will now wait until Sunday, Mar. 24 to play Lesley on campus.
