McLellan Lands ECAC Rookie of the Week Honor

Full ECAC Release

DANBURY, Conn. - Two days after being named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the first time, freshman Madi McLellan (Fremont, N.H.) of the Regis (Mass.) softball team has been named Rookie of the Week for New England Region of the Eastern College Athletic Conference.

It is the first time this season that McLellan has received the honor. Twice previously she won the NECC Pitcher of the Week Award, once the ECAC Pitcher of the Week Award and once the NECC Rookie of the Week Award.

McLellan allowed just one earned run in 21 innings pitched on the week for the Pride. The freshman had a one-hitter in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader against Becker, in which she combined for 24 strikeouts in the two games. Regis went 1-1 on Saturday losing just 1-0 in the first game off an unearned run. McLellan tallied a 10-1 strikeout to walk ratio in three appearances on the week.

On Tuesday night, although not considered as part of her award selection, McLellan worked around two major late inning jams, propelling her team to an extra inning 5-4 win over Elms in the First Round of the NECC Tournament to pick up her 11th win of the season.

McLellan and the Pride will return to the field on Thursday night when they play Lesley in the first game of the double elimination portion of the NECC Tournament. First pitch from Regis Field is set for 7:30 p.m.
