NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Regis (Mass.) softball team suffered a 9-0 defeat in six innings on Friday afternoon at the hands of Wilkes University at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. The game marks the end of both teams' 2017 Spring Break trip to the Palmetto State, with the Pride finishing 2-6 and the Colonels 7-1.

Freshman pitcher Madi McLellan (Fremont, N.H.) was credited with the loss on the afternoon, dropping to 1-3 on the young season. The rookie was rolling early on, allowing just one unearned run on two hits over the first 3.2 innings, but a two-out rally by the Colonels that culminated in a two-run reach on error by junior Christina Gambino (Basking Ridge, N.J.) put Wilkes ahead 3-0 after three and a half innings and took the wind out of the Pride's sails. The Colonels would tack on one more in the fifth and five in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

The Pride's bats were silenced through the majority of the game by freshman pitcher Celine Podlesney (Hazle Township, Pa.), who struck out five in a complete game two-hitter to earn the shutout over the Pride. Junior Alexa Nejaime (Sandisfield, Mass.) and sophomore Lisa Lusardi (Enfield, Conn.) recorded the Pride's only two hits, both coming in the second inning. The frame served as the team's only offensive threat, as the Pride left runners on the corners before Podlesney picked up a two-out strikeout to escape the jam.

McLellan ended the day allowing three earned on eight hits in 5+ innings to pick up the loss. In one inning in relief, freshman Crystal Daly (North Grosvenordale, Conn.) allowed two earned on three hits.

The Pride will get nearly two weeks off before returning to action back in New England, as they travel to future conference foe Simmons College for a doubleheader on March 22.
