WESTON, Mass.- The Regis College softball team won its fourth straight and seven or its last eight with a 6-1, 11-0 (5 inn.) sweep of Wheelock College in New England Collegiate Conference action on Monday at Regis Field. The Wildcats move to 4-18 (3-11 NECC) while the Pride go to 14-8 (10-4).

Game 1

Both teams started off well in this contest as Regis loaded the bases in the top of the first. Sophomore Amanda Navarro (Stoneham, Mass.) manufactured a run with a sacrifice fly to center that brought in rookie Brianna Napoleone (Medford, Mass.) to make it 1-0. Wheelock came right back in the bottom of the frame. Freshman Samantha Leahon (Kingston, N.Y.) singled and one batter later sophomore Rachael Simpson (Littleton, Mass.) drove her home with a double into the gap in right-center field and knotted the game at 1-1.

The Pride would pull away in the third when they tacked on three runs, highlighted by an RBI triple off the bat of Navarro. The visitors scored two more in the fourth on a Navarro base knock as they cruised to a 6-1 victory.

Wheelock was led by Simpson who went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Leahon was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Sophomore Emma Spencer (Thomaston, Maine) took the loss in the circle as she allowed two earned runs.

Regis had four players with multiple hits led by Navarro who was 2-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored. Senior Kirbie Garvey (Littleton, Mass.) scored a team-best two runs while going 2-for-4. Classmate Katie Cuozzo (Lynn, Mass.) dominated in the circle as she tossed a complete game while allowing six hits and one earned run with four strikeouts.

Game 2

In the afternoon cap, the Pride slowly earned an 11-0 five inning victory with Kirbie starting things off in the top of the first with an RBI single. They then added two runs each in the second and third to lead 5-0 headed into the fourth.

In the top of the fourth, Regis strung together back-to-back-to-back doubles as they went up 9-0. Finally, the visitors tacked on two more scores in the fifth capped by an RBI base knock from sophomore Taylor Polizonis (Cromwell, Conn.) to make it 11-0.

The Wildcats received a pair of 2-for-3 performances from Spencer and Leahon at the top of the order. Spencer suffered the loss after allowing nine runs (eight earned) over four innings while junior Maggie Doyle (Kingston, Mass.) closed out the game.

The Pride featured seven hitters with multiple hits featuring a 3-for-3 performance by junior Allison Caloggero (Medford, Mass.) and a 3-for-5 afternoon with two doubles by Napoleone. Rookie Lisa Lusardi (Enfield, Conn.) earned the win after hurling a complete game shutout.

Wheelock returns to action tomorrow when they travel to Mitchell for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. Regis heads to Eastern Nazarene at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader.
