CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Regis College Pride softball team suffered its first doubleheader sweep this season, losing a pair at Lesley University in New England Collegiate Conference play on Sunday afternoon at Buckingham Field.

The Lynx took the opener by a score of 5-3 before winning an offensive battle in game two, out-slugging the Pride for an 18-10 victory in five innings.

Regis (7-7, 3-3 NECC) will kick off an eight game homestand on Tuesday and host Southern Vermont College for a doubleheader starting at 3:00p.m. Lesley, who improve to 9-9 on the season and a perfect 6-0 in conference play, will return to action on Thursday when they host Mitchell College in an NECC twinbill at 12:00p.m

Game One: Lesley 5, Regis 3

The Lynx jumped ahead early as they plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Junior Carlyn Barker (Temecula, Calif.) ignited the rally with a double to left before later scoring on an RBI single by freshman Abby Henderson (Manchester, N.H.). Later in the inning, sophomore Courtney Goggin (Cheshire, Conn.) laced a double to right-center that brought around two runs to stake the hosts with a 3-0 lead.

Lesley would add one more in the bottom of the second as freshman Stephanie Schofield (Redwood City, Calif.) doubled and later crossed the plate on a fielder's choice by senior Selena Quezada (West Covina, Calif.).

The Pride would get on the board in the top of the fourth as senior Alyssa McKinnon (Rowley, Mass.) worked a walk to lead off the inning and moved into scoring position on a single by junior Allison Caloggero (Medford, Mass.). One batter later, freshman Allie Petillo (West Sayville, N.Y.) sent a one-out single to right field that scored McKinnon, but a strong throw from Schofield cut down senior Katie Cuozzo (Lynn, Mass.) at the plate.

After Lesley answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning to push their edge back to 5-1, Regis kept momentum with a two-out rally in the top of the fifth. After an error in the Lynx infield, the Pride registered three singles and walk to plate a pair of runs before junior reliever Alyson Nisbet (Clovis, Calif.) escaped the bases-loaded jam with a pop-out.

Nisbet shut the door on the Regis offense in the sixth and seventh as she retired seven of the eight batters she faced to pick up her third save of the season.

Lynx starter Kaera Wyse (Reading, Mass.) improved to 5-4 on the season, scattering seven hits and three runs while striking out six in 4 2/3 innings of work.

Couzzo suffered the loss for the Pride, yielding five runs (two earned), on eight hits and striking out three.

Game Two: Lesley 18, Regis 10 (Final – 5 Innings)

Golden and Reynolds also picked up multiple hits in the inning.

The Pride would continue to battle and put up a trio of runs in the fourth, but once again the Lynx had an answer and responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning before closing out the game via mercy-rule with the 18-10 victory.
