REGIS DROPS PAIR AT BAY PATH

LONGMEADOW, Mass. - The Regis Collegine softball team were swept by Bay Path University, 4-1 in the opener in the opener and 7-3 in the nightcap in a New England Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

Leading the way for the Wildcats was junior infielder Anna Meyer (Millbrook, N.Y.) who went 3-for-4 with one run; two RBI's including a double. The Wildcats played strong defense on the day with Meyer tallying 20 putouts at first.

In game one, senior catcher Nicole Ogden (Springfield, Mass.) made a spectacular play behind the plate ending the top of the second inning leaving the bases loaded. The Wildcats struck first in the bottom of the second taking advantage of some Pride errors with Meyer scoring on a throwing error.

The Pride knotted the score in the next inning with junior outfielder Kirbie Garvey (Littleton, Mass.) scoring on a sophomore infielder Allison Caloggero (Medford, Mass.) double shot to deep left center.

The Wildcats answered again when junior designated player Casey Botelho (Providence, R.I.) scored off a freshman short stop Lauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn.) double to centerfield. Vallee would then score on a sacrifice fly to left field by freshman infielder Gillian Flynn (Windsor, Conn.).

Bay Path would add one more insurance run in the sixth from junior outfielder Paige Marshall (Hartford, Conn.).

Bay Path's freshman pitcher Sarah Paskiewicz (Ansonia, Conn.) picked up the win facing 28 batters. She allowed only one run on six hits. Regis' junior hurler Marissa Magarian (Goffstown, N.H.) suffered the loss giving up seven hits and four runs, two earned, while fanning three and walking two in seven innings of work.

In game two, the Pride jumped out early to score three in the first inning. Garvey scored first taking advantage of a throwing error after a Caloggero single. Calogerro would then score off a junior infielder Alyssa McKinnon (Raynham, Mass.) double to left field. McKinnon then scored on another Wildcat throwing error to jump ahead three runs.

Despite the errors in the first, Bay Path quickly answered back in the bottom of the first tying the game 3-3 with Vallee launching a double shot sending both Botelho and sophomore outfielder Gretchen Hale (Naugatuck, Conn.) across the plate. Vallee would then score off a Meyer sacrifice fly.

Bay Path would again score in the fourth as the Wildcats would take advantage of errors with Marshall, senior infielder Marina Rhodes (Providence, R.I.), senior outfielder Katherine Chabot (Brookfield, Mass.) and Hale all scoring.

Junior pitcher Kate Sirois (Windsor, Conn.), making her comeback, tossed the victory allowing only four hits on three runs. Both Sirois and Chabot made a great return after both players coming back off of injuries. Junior Katie Cuozzo (Lynn, Mass.) had the loss giving up seven runs, three earned, on six hits. She fanned six and walked one for the game.

Bay Path is now 6-15 overall and 3-5 in NECC play, while Regis falls to 6-11 and 5-5 in conference play.
