PRIDE DROP PAIR ON OPENING DAY OF SPRING TRIP

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Regis College softball team kicked off its 2015 campaign dropping a 5-4 decision to King's College of Pennsylvania, 5-4, and a 9-0 setback to Anna Maria College in six innings.

In the first game of the day against King's, the Monarchs struck first as Samantha Bloom scored on an RBI single by Amy Kowalczyk. The Pride answered in the top of the sixth as Kirbie Garvey (Littleton, Mass.) left off the inning with her first homerun of the year to tie the game at 1-1. Jenna Casello (Westborough, Mass.) followed with a single before Allison Caloggero (Medford, Mass.) earned a walk to put runners on first and second.

Alyssa McKinnon (Raynham, Mass.) laced a single that plated both runners to put the Pride on top 3-1. McKinnon eventually moved to third on an Alexa NeJaime (Sandisfield, Mass.) single and came around to score on a Rachel DesRochers (Westford, Mass.) RBI hit.

The Monarchs tied the game in their half of the sixth on a pair of double by Shelby Eby and Helena Supsic that scored three runs. After a quiet seventh, King's walked off with a hit as Debra Renner drove in Kowalczyk for the game-winning run.

Jenna Casello, Alyssa McKinnon, and Alex NeJaime combined to go 6-for-10 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Katie Cuozzo (Lynn, Mass.) suffered the setback, tossing 6.1 innings and giving up five runs on 12 hits.

Against Anna Maria, the Pride were held off the scoreboard by Nichole Lowe, who tossed six innings and scattered eight hits. Caloggero went 2-for-3 in the game, while Cuozzo was 2-for-2 at the plate. Alexa NeJaime, Angelica Arredondo (Merrimac, Mass.) and Michaela NeJaime (Sandisfield, Mass.) all added hits. Cuozzo lasted five innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts.

The Crimson and Gold are back in action tomorrow morning when they take on Rosemont College at 9:30 a.m.
