Topsfield, Mass. – The Regis College men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Endicott Invitational on Saturday at Bradley Palmer State Park.
The women's team placed first in the seven-team meet after having the top three finishers in the race, finishing with 47 points, nine points ahead of second place Endicott. Emmanuel, a Great Northeast Athletic Conference competitor, placed fourth.
Maggie Mann (Buzzards Bay, Mass.), Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.), and Maddie Boucias (Buckland, Mass.) placed first, second, and third, respectively. Mann paced the entire field with a time of 19:43. Ashleigh Kelley finished her 5k race with a time of 20:01, setting a new personal record, and Boucias ran the course in 20:11, improving upon her first race of the season by 28 seconds.
Erin Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) also placed in the top 15, finishing 11th with a time of 21:32 a new personal best. Lizzy Melvin (Southington, Conn.) showed improvement by decimating her time from the Wellesley Invitational by over a minute, completing the course in 23:33.
On the men's side, JJ Pedersen (Milford, Conn.) paced the Pride with a time of 29:13, placing third overall. Nicholas Sahagian (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) placed inside the top 20, finishing in 30:48 for the 8k race.
Gustavo Novelle-Ruddy (Boston, Mass.) was the third member of the Pride to finish, crossing the line in 32:14. He was followed up by AJ Corso (Broad Brook, Conn.) 39 seconds later with a time of 32:53 in his first collegiate 8k race.
Michael Carroll (Lynn, Mass.) and Noah Ryan (Stockton, Calif.), the final runners for the Pride, finished within three seconds of each other with times of 34:36 and 34:39.
Regis placed sixth out of the nine participating teams with 141 points. Nichols, who placed runners first and second, finished the meet in first, while Emmanuel placed fourth.
The Pride will not compete again until Saturday, Sept. 21, when they travel for the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. The race is currently scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m.
