Pride Men's Cross Country Finishes Sixth at Pop Crowell Invite

WENHAM, Mass. – Thanks to several members of the Regis College men's cross country team running together, the Pride finished in sixth place at the Pop Crowell Invitational, hosted Saturday by Gordon College.

Jovan Sematimba (Burlington, Mass.) once again finished as Regis's top runner, crossing the finish line in 14th place with a time of 28:21.7 over the eight-kilometer course. Averaging 5:42 per mile, Sematimba once again came close to his personal 8K best time, ending up just three seconds off that mark.

Shane Romanchick (Trumbull, Conn.) was the next Pride runner to complete the race, finishing in 34th place in 29:21.7. Two teammates came in right behind him, as Sean Toomey (Salem, N.H.) ended up in 36th place with a time of 29:32.9 and Kyle Gillen-Hughes (Reading, Mass.) finished in 39th place in 29:44.9.

After missing last week's event, freshman Henry Walker (Brookline, Mass.) finished in 54th place in his first collegiate eight-kilometer race with a time of 30:39.2. Gustavo Novelle-Ruddy (Boston, Mass.) improved his time by over one minute from last week's event, finishing in 62nd place in 31:02.5, followed by Nicholas Sahagian (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) in 70th place in 31:41.9. On the current results page, Romanchick and Sahagian are switched.

As a squad, Regis finished with 169 points, good enough for a sixth-place finish ahead of host Gordon and nine other teams. Led by individual race winner Jacob Hickey with a time of 25:36.1, the University of New England placed its five scoring runners in the top 12 to cruise to the team victory far ahead of second place Wentworth.

After a week off, Regis will head to Standish, Maine, to compete in the Runnin' Monks Invitational, hosted by Saint Joseph's College Saturday, Oct. 6. The race will be held on the same course that will host the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships Saturday, Oct. 27.
