BRISTOL, R.I. - The Regis (Mass.) men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Great Northeast Athletic Championships for the first time on Saturday afternoon at Colt State Park. The men's team finished in third place overall, while the women finished in fourth.
The women's team, which was ranked eighth in August's Preseason Poll, opened the afternoon with a strong showing in the 5k race. Three Pride runners placed in the top 14 to earn All-Conference honors. Senior Molly Curtin (Brockton, Mass.) led the Pride, placing third overall with a time of 19:43. Sophomore Maggie Mann (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) finished right behind Curtin in fourth with a time of 19:46. Both women were First Team All-Conference Honors with top seven finishes. Sophomore Maddie Boucias (Buckland, Mass.) placed 12th with a time of 20:37, winning Second Team All-Conference honors. Megan Bubello (Framingham, Mass.) finished 38th and Jill Mosko (Woburn, Mass.) finished 47th to round out the Pride's top five runners.
The Pride men jumped up a spot from a fourth place finish in the Pre-Championship poll to a third place finish on Saturday. Jovan Sematimba (Burlington, Mass.) led the Pride, finishing 13th overall with Second Team All-Conference honors. JJ Pedersen (Milford, Conn.) placed 16th overall with a time of 29:41, with Shane Romanchick (Trumbull, Conn.) finishing right behind in 17th place with a time of 29:49. Sean Toomey (Salem, N.H.) finished 25th (30:41), and Nick Sahagian (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) rounded out the top five with a 29th place finish (30:53). Cutler Conquest (Westminster, S.C.) finished 30th with a time of 30:57 to conclude the day for Regis.
Toomey and Boucias were each named to the men's and women's GNAC All-Sportsmanship Teams following the race. Both the men's and women's races were won by Norwich University.
The Pride men and women will head to Portland, Maine in two weeks to compete in the NCAA Regional, hosted by the University of Southern Maine on Nov. 11.
